Review Magic Users Club - I Wanna Do More / Anime Works:The aliens have been defeated, and the Bell has been transformed into a gigantic cherry tree. Now, the brave Magic User's Club must reconvene to deal with a new problem. Sae, Nanaka, Takeo and Aburatsubo are all on the case. Akane would be with them, of course, but she has a date. And, what is the problem our intrepid Magic Club must solve? Well, apparently some inconsiderate persons left a skyscraper sized cherry tree in the middle of Tokyo, and it's become a major inconvenience to everyone in the city. Even though they have no idea who could have done such a thing, the Club feels strangely responsible and spring into action! The broadcast series of Magic User's Club picks up where the OVA left off in 1997, with Takeo, Aburatsubo, Sae, and Nanaka causing new trouble. The space bell has been transformed into a giant cherry tree, so the club members cope with fairly mundane problems, rather than alien mecha attacks. In "Sae, the Bathroom, and the Door," a teleportation spell goes haywire, causing doors to lead to unexpected places-Takeo's refrigerator opens into Sae's bathroom, while Nanaka's closet connects to Aburatsubo's attic. But most of the humor quickly falls into formulae: people overhear lines that suggest Aburatsubo is seducing Takeo, but the reality is relatively innocent. Takeo goes into spasms of lust at the sight of the manga club president's redoubtable bustline (or the thought of a girl); Sae stumbles and bumbles along, but comes out on top. Review Warriors of the Wind / New World Pictures:Hayao Miyazaki gained widespread attention in Japan for his complex ecological manga series, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1982), which he adapted for the screen two years later. Review Meiô Project Zeorymer / U.S. MANGA CORP.:Masato, the teen-aged hero of this 1988 sci-fi adventure, discovers he was a test-tube baby, created to pilot the enormous mecha Zeorymer. Fifteen years earlier, a renegade scientist stole it from the Hau Dragon Corporation. Yuratei, the head of the company, plans to use it and her other robots to conquer the world and become "Queen of the Underworld. " Although she's apparently done nothing for 15 years, Yuratei wants Zeorymer back, and dispatches her henchmen in mecha to capture it. Masato immediately bonds with Zeorymer. Like Shinji in Evangelion, he initially balks at harming the human robot-pilots-then a sadistic alter-ego takes over who gleefully savages any and all opponents. As there are only four half-hour episodes of Hades Project, splitting them between two discs seems a bit chintzy.
