Review Tobor the 8th Man 1 / Central Park Media:

The 60's classic 8th Man! Created by writer Hirai Kazumasa and artist Kuwata Jiro in 1963, 8-Man was a Japanese comic strip detailing the crimebusting adventures of 8-Man. The comic was developed into an animated series, which was re-edited, dubbed into English, and brought to the United States in syndication in 1965. You can destroy his body, but you can't keep a good crimefighter down. The villainous Saucer Lips learned the hard way when he killed police officer Peter Brady. Little did he know he actually would create his greatest foe, the bionic superhero known as. Tobor, the 8th Man! After Saucer Lips killed Brady, the slain police officer was found by Professor Genius. The Professor used Brady's body, memories, and personality to create Tobor (robot spelled backwards), the 8th Man, an atomic-powered crimefighter who could fly. [+]
with super strength and an arsenal of robotic weapons. Operating from the Metropolitan International Police Headquarters, Tobor battles against Saucer Lips and other villains such as Armored Man, Baron Stormy, Dr. Spectra, the Satan Brothers, and the Intercrime spy ring. Still using the name "Peter Brady," Tobor keeps his identity a secret from everyone except Police Chief Fumblethumbs. In this volume: Dr. Spectra wants to learn Tobor's inner secrets by any means possible! Using an incredible array of weapons to accomplish his task, he manages to wipe Tobor's memory! Also includes the episodes Evil Jaw and the Devil Germs, Baron Stormy, Attack of the Horrible Honey Bees, and Pounce the Robot Tiger. Also includes Evil Jaw and the Devil Germs, Baron Stormy, Attack of the Horrible Honey Bees, and Pounce the Robot Tiger.

Review The Prince of Egypt:

Nearly every biblical film is ambitious, creating pictures to go with some of the most famous and sacred stories in the Western world. DreamWorks' first animated film was the vision of executive producer Jeffrey Katzenberg after his ugly split from Disney, where he had been acknowledged as a key architect in that studio's rebirth (The Little Mermaid, etc. ). His first film for the company he helped create was a huge, challenging project without a single toy or merchandising tie-in, the backbone du jour of family entertainment in the 1990s. Three directors and 16 writers succeed in carrying out much of Katzenberg's vision. The linear story of Moses is crisply told, and the look of the film is stunning; indeed, no animated film has looked so ready to be placed in the Louvre since Fantasia. Here is an Egypt alive with energetic bustle and pristine buildings. Born a slave and set adrift in the river, Moses (voiced by Val Kilmer) is raised as the son of Pharaoh Seti (Patrick Stewart) and is a fitting rival for his stepbrother Rameses (Ralph Fiennes). When he learns of his roots-in a knockout sequence in which hieroglyphics come alive-he flees to the desert, where he finds his roots and heeds God's calling to free the slaves from Egypt. Katzenberg and his artists are careful to tread lightly on religious boundaries. [+]
The film stops at the parting of the Red Sea, only showing the Ten Commandments-without commentary-as the film's coda. Music is a big part (there were three CDs released) and Hans Zimmer's score and Stephen Schwartz's songs work well-in fact the pop-ready, Oscar-winning "When You Believe" is one of the weakest songs. Kids ages 5 and up should be able to handle the referenced violence; the film doesn't shy away from what Egyptians did to their slaves. Perhaps Katzenberg could have aimed lower and made a more successful animated film, but then again, what's a heaven for? -Doug Thomas.

Review Landlock:

Rife with long-lost siblings, supernatural mumbo-jumbo, and flashy pyrotechnics, Landlock surveys the familiar landscape of the anime fantasy epic. A vicious warlord in a mammoth spaceship ravages a peaceful farming planet in search of the "red eye," a boy whose lineage gives him incredible mystic powers over the wind. Inspired equally by the Sega video game and a certain blockbuster science fiction movie series, it boasts eye-catching designs inspired by Masumune Shirow of Ghost in the Shell (who worked on the original video game) and plenty of action. It's enough to keep the plot rolling, but the stock characters, derivative story, and often-clumsy animation largely restrict its interest to Japanese animation enthusiasts. Violence and brief (modest) nudity makes this unsuitable for kids younger than 13. -Sean Axmaker.

Review Gulliver's Travels:

This 1939 animated film is based on Jonathan Swift's classic novel about a sailor stranded on an island populated by people the size of his thumb. When Gabby, the town crier, discovers Gulliver on the beach, he runs to tell the king. But the king is preoccupied with the impending wedding of his daughter, Princess Gloria, to Prince David from the neighboring kingdom. When the kingdoms can't agree on which song to play at the wedding, Gulliver is caught in the middle of a war. His common sense helps the two sides resolve their dispute, but not before a lot of adventure and romance. A milestone in the art of animation, this was the second animated motion picture of its magnitude ever produced, after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It has been digitally mastered and visually enhanced, making it first-rate family entertainment even today. -Elisabeth Keating.
