Myu's mother disguises herself as a Gimera and scares Myu into flying, but a real Gimera suddenly appears and engages them in battle! Kimba fends off the attack only to realize that the Gimera was just a parent protecting her young. As Kimba returns home, he contemplates Malody's comments about will, power and survival. Episode 11: The Prophesy - A severe drought hits the forest, and the animals, desperate for water, fight amongst themselves. Old Dice tells them they must be patient, that the Malima, the "Mountain Mother," will provide for them. No sooner are the words spoken, then the sky changes and snow begins to fall. Kimba sets off to meet the Malima. Just as he's about to be overcome by snow and cold, the Malima appears, and tells Kimba of an ominous and unknown power that threatens both Panja's jungle and Moon Mountain. Review The New Adventures of Kimba The White Lion - Successor of Legend / Geneon [Pioneer]:Kimba the White Lion began as a manga (comics) series Osamu Tezuka wrote and drew from 1950 through 1954. The title character was the son of the Panja, the Jungle Emperor, although his large ears and round head made him look more like a mouse than a feline. The stories remained popular enough for Tezuka to produce an animated series in 1965, the first color animated program on Japanese television. A substantially reedited version began showing in America in 1966. Tezuka followed Kimba with a second series that depicted the character as an adult with a mate and cubs of his own. It finally aired in America in 1984 on the Christian Broadcasting Network as Leo the Lion. It is an article of faith among Tezuka's fans that Disney's 1994 hit The Lion King was based in part on Kimba, although the artists who made the record-breaking feature deny any influence. Neither side has commented on how much Tezuka borrowed from Disney's Bambi for Kimba. -Charles Solomon.

More spirits live in Saito High School than in Harry Potter's Hogwarts, including the Giant Who Dances in the Gym, anatomical model Haruo and his skeleton Bones, the dashing Scarlet Mantle, sexy Miss Hanako, the Girl in the Mirror, an animated statue-and the head of the school. The members of the "Holy Student Council" are charged with keeping them in line and fending off hostile entities. Council President Haruto Hokujo says he wants to lead a normal life but finds himself in the thick of every crisis. When he's not being possessed by some wandering spirit, Kazumi Ryudo lusts after Miss Hanako. Asahina Mutsumi handles exorcisms while suffering from "Shouta Complex"-the female equivalent of the "Lolita Complex" that afflicts so many males in anime and manga: she lusts after pubescent boys. This running gag doesn't play well in America, where suggestions of child molestation aren't considered funny. [+]The situations in this 12-part, no-holds-barred comedy invariably degenerate into slapstick disasters. When the ghost of a lovely girl tries to take possession of Kazumi so she can spend the night with her musician-lover, he imagines a homosexual encounter; she wants to hear the song he wrote for her. A disgruntled former student steals 1,000 statues, hoping to absorb their mental powers-but is sidetracked by Kazumi's girlie magazine. Although Haruto ends each episode sighing, "Oh my God!" the characters actually enjoy their unconventional lives. Rated 13 and up for profanity, nudity, sexual humor, toilet humor, and violence. Civil war rages on the planet Cybertron between the virtuous Autobots and the evil Decepticons. Both sides launch crews into space to find new energy sources, but the ships crash on Earth and are buried in lava. When the robots awaken four million years later, the Decepticons, led by the dictatorial Megatron, want to drain the planet of its resources, enslaving or destroying mankind. [+]The Autobots ally with humanity and befriend oil-rig worker Spike Witwicky. The Saturday morning-style cheat of cutting to a logo, rather than animating transitions, and the frequent pauses for commercial breaks make for very choppy storytelling. The designs of the robots are interesting but lack the graphic sophistication of Yoshiyuki Tomino's Gundam Mobile Suits. The animation is very limited, and the choreography of the battle sequences lacks the panache of Tomino and other more talented directors. Like Robotech, Transformers will appeal most strongly to adults who watched the show as kids: it's remained popular through Web sites, role-playing games, fan fiction, and a lively trade in the original toys. Serious students of anime will find this early series of historic interest. Unrated; suitable for age 6 and up: Robot vs. robot violence. -Charles Solomon.

Review City Hunter: The Motion Picture (Sub) / Adv Films:Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan gives his self-mocking humor full flourish in City Hunter, adapted from a Japanese comic book. But that doesn't mean there isn't a solid dose of action-after a brilliantly cartoonish opening, the movie settles into a half-comedy, half-thriller variation on Die Hard, in which Eurotrash terrorists have hijacked a plush ocean cruise liner and super-detective Ryu Saeba (Chan) has to stop them, aided by his lovely, love-lorn assistant (Joey Wong, A Chinese Ghost Story, Green Snake) and a beautiful undercover secret agent (Chingmy Yau, Naked Killer). Though City Hunter is short on breathtaking stunts, there's plenty of well-choreographed hand-to-hand combat. Jackie Chan's lecherous, self-absorbed character (accompanied by a parade of girls into skimpy or skin-tight outfits) come across like a gleeful parody of James Bond (slightly marred by a bit of homophobia).
