Review Fatal Fury: One-Two Punch / Viz Video:Based on the video game, Fatal Fury is widely regarded as one of the best kung fu anime features. The good guys are Terry "Hungry Wolf" Bogard and his brother, Andy; Thai kickboxer Joe Higashi; and the curvaceous ninja Mai. With their masses of spiky blond hair, narrow blue eyes, and sharp features, the Bogard brothers almost cross over into the "beautiful boy" genre, but they and Joe are muscled like dinosaurs. Mai, who has a crush on Andy, provides both humor and jiggle interest in a succession of minuscule outfits. The heroes are pitted against an assortment of equally buffed-out Bad Guys, led by Laocorn, a descendant of the ancient clan of Gaudeamus, who is seeking to obtain "the armor of Vulcan. " A relic going back to the time of Alexander the Great, the armor transforms anyone who wears all seven pieces of it into a god. But Laocorn's twin sister, Sulia, knows it will also make the wearer hopelessly evil: she enlists the Bogards and their friends to prevent her brother from acquiring the scattered pieces. Director Masami Obari uses all the standard tricks for the bone-crunching martial arts battles-blurs, streaks, slow-motion images of blows landing on skulls, camera spins, flashes of lighting, flames, and, of course, gobs of blood. Fatal Fury feels like a cross between an Indiana Jones film and a WWE tag-team match, and is sure to delight adolescent boys. (Rated 13 Up) -Charles Solomon.

Review Super Duper Sumos - They've Got Guts (Vol. 1) / Adv Films:Mamoo, Boomer and Kimo are three eighteen year-old, thousand-pound sumo wrestlers, dressed according to custom in super-hefty-size sumo thongs. In addition to their bulk, they pack ancient sumo powers, which makes the modern world a bit confusing for them. Regardless, when evil threatens, the three flex themselves into a dramatic physical transformation, doubling their size and strength. (If only their heads grew, too!) Super Duper Sumos is a string of butt jokes masquerading as a children's TV series. Three outsized guys-Pooma, Kimo, and Mamoo-fight evil as "Defenders of the Phat. " Ms. Mister and her henchmen Dr. Stinger and Geghis Fangus at Bad Inc. are out to destroy the world. (Where they'll go when it's destroyed is never explained. [+]) In the heat of battle, the Sumos "super-size" and grow even bigger. In flashbacks, they describe being trained by Wisdom San, who talks in a clichéd Borscht Belt accent. The pseudo-Japanese Kimo refers to "honorable this" and "honorable that," while Pooma talks about "my butt" as if it were another character. The endless shots of jiggling cheeks and cracks about butts make this show ideal viewing for junior Adam Sandlers. He makes two students propose to Akane in the middle of class, then decides she and Ranma are preparing to elope. Once Higuma reaches a conclusion, he clings to it like a pit bull. Happily, his tenure at Furinkan High is brief. Another visitor upsets the fragile peace of the Tendo household in "Appearance. " Genji Heita is so impressed with Happosai's martial arts form, he begs to become his student. Built along the lines of a refrigerator-and boasting a comparable IQ-Heita does every chore he can find, which makes life awkward for perpetual freeloaders Ranma and Genma.
