Review The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe / Cinema 5 Distributing:

COLOR. With PIERRE RICHARD, JEAN ROCHEFORT, MIREILLE DARC, BERNARD BLIER. When was the last time your sides were split by laughter? This frothy French farce - one of the most acclaimed comedies of recent years - will do it for you. The head of a spy network misleads a much-too-ambitious assistant into believing that a completely harmless violinist - "the tall blond man with one black shoe" - is actually a superspy. The assistant, his army of henchmen and one gorgeous henchwoman fall all over each other in their misguided attempts to discover the musicians allegedly vital secrets. They follow his every move, check each of his possessions (a discarded candy wrapper, a broken filling, even his toothpaste), search and bug his apartment, tap his phone and analyze his most inane conversations. Through all of this, the empty-headed blond man hasnt an inkling that anything is going on - although he is mildly puzzled when he finds shaving cream in his toothpaste tube and! vice versa. Driving around Paris in a flower shops van, the spies listen intently for significant clues in a recording of the violinists ludicrous foreplay dialogue with his best friends wife - in which she asks him to "play horsey," among other things. The best friend, happening by on his bicycle, overhears the tape and, thinking that his wife is inside, having perverted sex with a florist, pursues the van through the streets. There are many other mad chases, as well as searches for vanishing bodies, tastefully naughty adult situations (including seminude scenes), a hilarious concert where the orchestra is completely thrown off by the befuddled violinist and plenty of witty dialogue. [+]
Much of this is accompanied by a lively, infectious panpipe melody. In all, an elegantly filmed, outrageously delightful romp that has already taken its place among the screens great comedy classics. Dubbed in English. 90 minutes.

Review The Blair Witch Rejects / Tapeworm Video:

In the very first feature length spoof of "The Blair Witch Project", director Jerry Vasilatos used similar preparation with his actors as they improvised the story throughout the whole three-day shoot. Having worked previously in drama (Jerry wrote, produced and directed the Christmas movie "Solstice" which aired on Lifetime Television and is also available on Amazon. com), Vasilatos chose to try something lighter his second time out. Casting a talented ensemble cast featuring Kevin Leadingham, Chanda Willis, Brent Beebe, Deborah Wolff and others, his approach was to satirize independent filmmakers trying to ride the coat-tails of the original film. "There were several independent groups here in L. A. all jumping on the "Blair Witch" bandwagon shooting spoofs as quickly as they could to cash in on the original's success. to me, that's what was spoofable. [+]
filmmakers haphazardly rushing to ride the coat-tails of something else, unable to come up with their own original ideas, so that became our focus". The result was 10 actors given only snippets of their character motivations and plot points as the shoot progressed right up to the surprise ending, in a similar stlye to the original but this time played for laughs. "Our story definitely has echoes of the real movie, with our characters trying to hunt down a local legend. But we also loved the original Blair Witch Project, so the idea of other people spoofing it with so many of the same jokes is what inspired us to poke fun at them instead. " The Blair Witch Rejects is a hilarious 90 minute tongue-in-cheek comedy with a B-Movie quality that would make even Ed Wood proud.

From Robert Weide, the filmmaker of "W. C. Fields Straight Up", comes THE MARX BROTHERS IN A NUTSHELL, a fascinating look at the most beloved comedy team in motion picture history. Exclusive interviews with those closest to the brothers supplement this collection of highlights from their film, theater, and television appearances and offer a compelling look at their lives both on and off-screen. Review Western Flickers:

"Western Flickers" is R. J. Thomas' mock-documentary about a Texas lawman named T. J. Spikes, who, in 1913, came up with an ambitious plan to get into the history books. Anxious for notoriety after a lackluster career as a bounty hunter, Spikes asked the Western Flickers Motion Picture Company of Hollywood to come to Texas and film his pursuit (and, hopefully, capture) of the Cactus Kid, a notorious outlaw who had been robbing banks and trains for 30 years without being caught. "Western Flickers" is told in a documentary fashion a' la a 70's "In Search Of"-style show called "America's Legends and Mysteries. " The narration is straight, and the footage and illustrations are presented as though we are watching an intriguing, recently-discovered nugget of western history and silent-era Hollywood folklore. The motion picture that Spikes and the Western Flickers company made, dubbed "Hero of the Range," is seen in bits and pieces throughout the fake documentary. We are told that "Hero of the Range" was a hit in 1913, but through the years faded from memory, and by the end of the silent era no complete print of it could be found. [+]
But, alas, in 1997, a singing instructor found a trunk in her basement containing reels and reels of silent western films. And one of them just happened to be "Hero of the Range. " And then we are plunged into Spikes' adventure as he chases the Cactus Kid across Texas and the Western Flickers studio (headed by a no-nonsense chief by the name of Thomas West, no less) tries to capture it all on film. Spikes (played in the "fake" 1913 footage by Mr. Thomas, himself) launched his quest from his hometown of Rattlesnake Junction, Texas. The town was so in love with their local hero that the mayor declared a town holiday, complete with a parade, a carnival, and plenty of fanfare. After that, for the next 67 days, Spikes found himself tangled up in the biggest wild goose chase in the history of the American West.

Review Bread, Love and Dreams (1954-Italy):

With VITTORIO DE SICA, GINA LOLLOBRIGIDA, MARISA MERLINI, ROBERTO RISSO. "Performances Under the Supervision of VITTORIO DE SICA. " Despite its all-encompassing title, the primary focus of this simple, hearty comedy is love and the art of seduction. De Sica, one of ltalys most respected filmmakers who also enjoyed a career in front of the camera, stars as The Marshal: a dapper, middle-aged bachelor whos the new chief of a six-man police unit in a small, picturesque mountain village. Not much happens here; in fact, the town residents have so little to do that theyve become obsessed with gossiping and becoming involved in each others business. So theres much ado when their new top cop commences to flirt with, and then ardently pursue, the towns sexiest - and most tempestuous and devilish young maiden, who is most appropriately known as "Frisky. " The Marshal must be ever so careful as he does so, because of his age and position in the community. De Sica plays him masterfully, in a performance that is first a series of subtle, artfully maneuvered glances, smiles and raised eyebrows, then a caricature of a desperate, longing suitor. Hes matched by Lollobrigida, a movie goddess who was capable of offering carefully considered, well-defined characterizations. Her "Frisky" is more than just a cardboard sex object. [+]
La Lollo offers a piercing performance as she mimics the various townsmen who paw at her and deflects the Marshals passes, reminding one and all with her body language that she, and not the Marshal, or any man, is the one with the true power when it comes to matters of the heart. The stars are surrounded by a fine supporting cast, notably Roberto Risso as the shy young policeman who happens to be the object of Friskys affection and Marisa Merlini as a midwife who, it would seem, is a more appropriate romantic partner for the Marshal. Dubbed in English. 91 minutes.
